Processing times
The time required to process a video depends on the source material and the processing configuration you select. Processing time can vary significantly between jobs.
What affects processing time?
Important factors include:
- video duration
- source resolution
- output resolution
- frame rate
- filters being applied
- output codec
- encoding settings
- output bitrate
AI-based restoration and enhancement filters generally require more processing time than simpler operations such as transcoding or scaling.
Higher resolutions also require more processing because each frame contains significantly more image data.
Multiple filters
When several filters are applied to the same processing job, each operation contributes to the total processing time.
Some processing configurations can therefore take considerably longer than the duration of the source video itself.
This is normal for computationally intensive enhancement workflows.
Test with a clip first
For long videos or configurations using several enhancement filters, we recommend processing a short representative clip first.
A test clip lets you:
- evaluate the visual result
- verify that the selected settings are appropriate
- get a practical indication of how demanding the processing configuration is
By default, Pixop automatically creates a 10-second clip when a source video is uploaded.
See Video quality, clips, and testing for more information.
Processing time and processing cost
Processing time and processing cost are separate.
Before starting a processing job, Pixop provides an appraisal showing the estimated processing cost.
The actual processing time depends on the source video and the operations selected for the job.
See Pricing for information about processing costs.
If processing appears to have stopped
A processing job may occasionally take longer than expected, particularly when using computationally intensive filters or high-resolution output.
If a job appears to be stalled rather than simply processing slowly, see Troubleshooting Pixop Studio.
